A new law in Wisconsin requires all voters to have a Photo ID.

Someone compared it to the Jim Crow laws, and the rest of the argument was how difficult it would be to obtain one, what with the lines and all.

Here’s the thing. In 1992, Apartheid was lifted in South Africa. In 1994, they held their first general election. Over 3 days, 19 MILLION people lined up to vote in their new leaders. They were told to get identification. They did. 19 million of them.

I refuse to validate the idea that Jim Crow and this law are similar. If you want to be represented properly, represent yourself. Go fucking vote. You do whatever it takes to make sure your ballot is counted. Make sure your friends do too.

You should have a god damn ID anyways.

Edit: I should point out that most of the outrage is concerning the fact that while it is free, it’s only free if you ask, and employees have been instructed not to tell people that. But the honest truth is, we have a crazy amount of social connectivity in the 21st century so its really not a great excuse.
